Drivers can take advantage of the cheapest gas in the country at the Sam’s Club in Lafayette, Indiana, where a gallon costs just $1.39. According to AAA, the national average for gas is currently $2.04, which is over 25% lower than it was at the same time last year. Tom Kloza, who is the chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, confirms that almost two-thirds of gas stations nationwide are selling gas for under $2 per gallon. He also notes that the national average could drop below $2 for the first time in almost seven years by this weekend, depending on the outcome of the upcoming OPEC meeting.
