Find the perfect hotel for your budget with Trivago – compare and save!
Traveling can get pricey, especially with hotel costs. But don’t worry, you can still find affordable places to stay without breaking the bank. Here are some tips to book budget-friendly accommodations:
AirBnB
If you haven’t tried AirBnB yet, you’re missing out on some great budget accommodation options. With AirBnB, you can rent a room, condo, or even an entire house from locals. It’s usually cheaper than traditional hotels or bed and breakfasts because you get fewer services. For example, you might rent a room from a couple who are renting out their kid’s old room. You’ll get a bed and a bathroom, and the rest is pretty much up to you. The best part? AirBnB often costs much less than hotels, and you can save even more with discounts for longer stays.
Craigslist Swap
Craigslist also has a section for housing where you can arrange to swap homes temporarily or for a longer period. Be cautious with this option to avoid any troubles. My spouse and I once swapped our apartment for a family’s mountain cabin when we were newly married and broke. It was a little scary at first, but thankfully, we didn’t have any valuables to worry about losing. House swapping can be a great option if you’re adventurous, low on cash, and looking for a quick escape. Just make sure to set clear expectations.
CouchSurfing
For young travelers looking to save even more, CouchSurfing is a popular choice. It’s cheaper than AirBnB because you’re just getting a place to sleep, not necessarily a private room. This option isn’t something I’d suggest for solo female travelers unless they are with a friend. While it’s not for everyone, CouchSurfing can be a nearly free accommodation option.
Priceline
If you prefer the comfort of a traditional hotel and the previous options don’t appeal to you, give Priceline a try. The Priceline Negotiator tool lets you bid on hotel rooms, choosing the price you’re willing to pay along with the hotel’s star rating and location. You won’t know which hotel you’ll get until after your bid is accepted, but you can often get really good deals. My partner and I have used this method several times and snagged four-star hotels for just $100 a night.
By following these tips, you can enjoy your vacation without worrying about high accommodation costs.
