Subscription boxes that arrive monthly are becoming increasingly popular. This trend is evident from the number of entrepreneurs showcasing their versions on shows like Shark Tank. In our fast-paced, tech-driven world, the excitement of receiving a surprise package in the mail is quite enticing, especially for new mothers who are often homebound with their babies.
As a mother, I received three baby subscription boxes from Bluum when I had my first child and recently started using the 16 Minute Club boxes for my second child. Here’s my take on what I like and dislike about these services and their value for money.
**Bluum Boxes**
Three years ago, I first tried Bluum boxes, and since then, the company has evolved. They now cater to the period from pregnancy to preschool.
Initially, I wasn’t very impressed with the box. It was filled with several samples but lacked substantial content. However, looking at their current offerings, it’s clear they have upgraded to include higher quality products.
Would I spend $29 a month on the box as a gift for someone else or wish to receive it? Absolutely. Would I buy it for myself? Probably not. The main reason is that these boxes are heavily focused on books. While I love books and frequently read to my girls, the books they send are a bit too simplistic for preschoolers and not something I’d pay full price for. There are plenty of picture books available for babies and toddlers at discounted rates, making this subscription seem less cost-effective.
**16 Minute Club**
The 16 Minute Club boxes are designed to support breastfeeding, which I think is incredibly valuable for new mothers. My first two boxes arrived just as I came back from the hospital—one tailored for pregnancy needs and the other for post-natal care.
My past subscription box experience was limited to Bluum, so the content in each 16 Minute Club box was a pleasant surprise. Each box had a balanced mix of useful advice, various items, and some fun products. I was happy to find not just samples but also full-sized items along with a baby onesie, bib, toy, and more.
As a second-time mom, I enjoyed all the baby and mom surprises the box included. I can see first-time moms appreciating it even more for the helpful resources and reading material. I remember spending countless hours online searching for answers as a new mom—this box could have saved me a lot of stress and uncertainty.
Priced at $31 per box, it is slightly more expensive than Bluum, but given its content, I believe it offers better value for money.
In conclusion, when it comes to subscription services, keep in mind that some months might be better than others. Nonetheless, they make thoughtful gifts, especially for new mothers. After all, who doesn’t love receiving a surprise package in the mail?
Have you subscribed to any subscription box services? I’d love to hear your experiences and opinions.
