On average, Americans spend around 42 minutes each day shopping but only 35 minutes socializing. This information comes from the annual “American Time Use Survey” by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which looks into how people over 15 years old spend their time.
Interestingly, social interactions increase on weekends and holidays. While shopping time goes up to 50 minutes on these days, the time spent socializing jumps to 62 minutes.
In contrast, Americans dedicate far less time to sports, exercise, and volunteering. They spend about 18 minutes a day on sports and recreational activities, and just 9 minutes a day volunteering.
