Sweetgreen is a new and rapidly growing salad-focused startup that’s being compared to Chipotle. It was founded in 2007 by three friends from Georgetown University. The main idea behind Sweetgreen is to make healthy food both enjoyable and accessible. Jonathan Neman, one of the co-founders, shared his belief that healthy food shouldn’t just be available to the top 1%. Inspired by his time studying in Australia, Neman was frustrated by the lack of affordable healthy meal options when he returned to the U.S. Soon after graduating, he joined forces with his friends, Nicholas Jammet and Nathaniel Ru, to open the first Sweetgreen.
