Scottrade, a well-known investment company, recently faced a significant online attack resulting in a major data breach. The hack affected 4.6 million clients, particularly those who signed up for a Scottrade brokerage account before February 2014.
During the attack, hackers accessed a comprehensive database containing customer information. This included names, physical addresses, email addresses, and Social Security numbers. However, Scottrade stated that they do not believe this specific data was misused or stolen.
The breach was confirmed on a Friday when the company revealed that unidentified cybercriminals had successfully infiltrated its computer network. Surprisingly, Scottrade was unaware of the data theft until the FBI informed them in August.
