General Motors (GM) has announced a recall for about 79,000 Chevy Cobalt models from 2010 in the US and Canada. This decision was made due to issues with the wiring that might prevent the driver’s side airbag on the roof from deploying during a collision.
There have been at least 124 deaths and 274 injuries linked to defective ignition switches in these vehicles, as reported by the compensation fund established by GM. The families affected by these defects are being offered a minimum compensation of $1 million each.
Last year, GM recalled 2.6 million cars of the same model and admitted that they had known about the switch problems for over ten years.
